Patmos, also called “the holy island”, “the island of the Apocalypse, and “the Jerusalem of the Aegean”, is an absolute favorite among religious tourists. Legend has it that John the Apostle wrote the Book of Revelations in a mountainside grotto on Patmos, where he is said to have heard the voice of God.
